Melania Trump Will Not Attend Republican Midterm Convention

First Lady Melania Trump is not expected to attend the Republican Party’s upcoming midterm convention in Dallas, according to a White House official who confirmed her absence Friday.

The two-day event, scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, is being organized as an opportunity for President Donald Trump and Republican leaders to showcase what they describe as the administration’s achievements during its first 19 months. The gathering is also intended to energize Republican voters and candidates ahead of the midterm elections.

President Trump is expected to speak on both nights of the convention. Vice President JD Vance and several other prominent Republican figures are also scheduled to take part.

Melania Trump’s decision not to attend means one of the Republican Party’s best-known public figures will be missing from an event focused heavily on party unity. The convention comes as Republicans face a challenging political environment and concerns about the president’s approval ratings.

Some Republican lawmakers and candidates are also expected to skip the event, particularly those involved in closely contested races. Vance said Thursday that he was not worried about attendance, noting that candidates in competitive congressional contests have important local responsibilities, including fundraising, managing campaign staff and meeting voters.

Melania Trump has traditionally maintained a much lower political profile than her husband. During Donald Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign, she made relatively few campaign appearances. She did, however, make a notable appearance on the final evening of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, although she did not deliver a speech.

Since returning to the White House, Melania Trump has continued to maintain a limited public schedule. She has appeared at selected official events while also focusing attention on initiatives and causes associated with her role as first lady.

Her absence from the Dallas convention is likely to draw attention as Republicans prepare for an important midterm election season.
