Trump Slams Putin for Massive Drone and Missile Strikes on Ukraine: "He's Gone Absolutely Crazy!"
President Donald Trump sharply criticized Russian President Vladimir Putin after a massive wave of drone and missile attacks hit cities across Ukraine on Sunday evening. Trump expressed his anger, saying he was “not happy” with Putin’s actions and called the Russian leader's assault “needless and deadly.”
“Putin is killing a lot of people,” Trump told reporters. “I don’t know what the hell happened to Putin. I’ve known him for a long time and always got along with him, but he’s now launching rockets into cities and killing innocent people, and I don’t like it at all.
When asked about imposing more sanctions on Russia, Trump responded, “Absolutely.”
Later that evening, Trump posted on social media, saying Putin “has gone absolutely CRAZY!” and condemned the attacks as brutal and unnecessary.
Largest Aerial Assault of the War
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Sunday’s attack was the largest aerial assault since the war began, involving 355 drones and nine cruise missiles that targeted dozens of Ukrainian cities, including the capital, Kyiv. At least 12 civilians were killed and many more were injured.
Despite the devastating assault, the Kremlin tried to downplay Trump’s remarks. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov suggested that Trump’s comments were the result of “emotional overload” and thanked him for his role in trying to broker peace.
“We appreciate President Trump’s help in organizing negotiations,” Peskov said. “This is an emotional time for everyone.”
Ceasefire Talks Stall Despite Prisoner Exchange
The attacks came just one day after another round of Russian shelling and during a rare Russia-Ukraine prisoner exchange, which brought a brief moment of hope. However, efforts toward a ceasefire have made little progress.
Trump reportedly held a two-hour phone call with Putin last week in hopes of ending the three-year conflict. Ukraine has already agreed to a 30-day unconditional ceasefire proposed by the U.S., but Putin rejected the deal.
Trump Administration Live Updates
On social media, Trump suggested that Putin has broader ambitions.
“I’ve always said he wants ALL of Ukraine, not just a piece of it,” he wrote. “But if he does, it will lead to the downfall of Russia!”
Trump Also Criticizes Zelenskyy
In addition to criticizing Putin, Trump also had tough words for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, with whom he has had a strained relationship.
“Everything out of his mouth causes problems,” Trump said online. “I don’t like it, and it better stop.”
