In a surprising move, Disney+ has decided not to move forward with a second season of Marvel's "Wonder Man," even though the series was officially renewed earlier this year.

Reports indicate that while a Season 2 announcement was made in March, production never truly got underway. A writers' room was reportedly never assembled, and the creative team has since been released to pursue other projects.

The series starred Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as aspiring actor Simon Williams and Ben Kingsley as Trevor Slattery, alongside X Mayo, Demetrius Grosse, Zlatko Burić, Arian Moayed, and Olivia Thirlby. The show was created by Destin Daniel Cretton and Andrew Guest, with Cretton directing the opening episodes and Guest serving as showrunner.AD

Although "Wonder Man" earned widespread praise from critics, its strong reviews were not enough to guarantee another season. The first season holds an impressive 91% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes, with many reviewers praising the performances of Abdul-Mateen and Kingsley, as well as the show's fresh, comedic take on Hollywood and superhero storytelling.

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II also received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, making history as the first live-action actor to receive Emmy recognition for both Marvel and DC projects following his previous win for HBO's Watchmen.

Disney+ has not released official viewing numbers for the series. However, Nielsen data showed that "Wonder Man" briefly entered the streaming Top 10 originals chart during its premiere week, reaching No. 8 before dropping out of the rankings the following week.
