Ex-Girlfriend Accuses Maine Senate Candidate Graham Platner of Sexual Assault; Platner Denies Allegations

Ex-Girlfriend Accuses Maine Senate Candidate Graham Platner of Sexual Assault; Platner Denies Allegations

A woman who previously dated Maine Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Graham Platner has publicly accused him of sexually assaulting her during an encounter in late 2021. Platner has strongly denied the allegations, calling them "false" and rejecting any claims of non-consensual behavior.

Woman Describes Alleged Incident

The woman, identified as 41-year-old Maine resident Jenny Racicot, said she had an on-and-off relationship with Platner for more than two years before the alleged incident occurred. According to her account, Platner entered her home uninvited while intoxicated and allegedly forced himself on her despite her repeated objections.

Racicot said the experience ended their relationship and that she informed Platner afterward that the encounter had not been consensual.

She recalled reaching a moment during the incident when she felt she had lost control over the situation, describing it as no longer being her choice.

Supporting Information

According to reporting by POLITICO, Racicot shared her account during multiple interviews. The publication also reported reviewing emails between Racicot and her therapist, messages exchanged with an acquaintance, and speaking with another individual whom Racicot had previously confided in about the incident.

Why She Chose to Speak Publicly

Racicot said she initially chose not to publicly discuss the alleged assault because she did not want to be identified as a sexual assault survivor. She explained that she later decided to come forward after another woman's allegations against Platner became the focus of public debate.

She also stated that her decision was emotionally difficult because she agreed with many of Platner's political views. Despite that, she said she believed voters deserved a complete understanding of his character.

Platner Rejects the Claims

Platner has firmly denied the allegations, describing them as serious but completely false.

In a statement, he said that any accusation of non-consensual behavior was categorically untrue.

His campaign also argued that the allegations were politically motivated and intended to damage his Senate campaign ahead of key election deadlines. Campaign representatives claimed opponents were attempting to derail his candidacy and maintained that Platner would continue his campaign.

Ongoing Political Impact

The allegations have added to scrutiny surrounding Platner's Senate campaign as Maine voters prepare for the upcoming election. At this time, Platner denies all allegations, and no court has determined the truth of the claims. The matter remains a subject of public and political attention.
